The cost of purchasing credits from Greenhouse Friendly™ accredited abatement providers is applied to the passenger emission figure for the city pair on which you are flying in order to determine the amount that is required to offset your flight(s). This is the amount that will be directed to the purchase of carbon offsets on your behalf.
Jetstar has also implemented a simplified tiered pricing structure for our carbon offset program in order to provide an innovative option for our passengers within the normal flight booking process, and to avoid the additional transaction costs associated with the carbon offset programs offered by some of our competitors. As such, the price points for our carbon offsets reflect volume-weighted average prices for flights with similar emission characteristics (which include the length of the flight sector(s), and historical passenger numbers on specific city pairs). Jetstar undertakes to meet any shortfall between the amount collected as carbon offsets from passengers, and the amount that is required to be directed to purchasing Department of Climate Change endorsed abatement credits to ensure that the full emission associated with your flight is offset.
Jetstar will not make any profit from Carbon Offset transactions. All funds contributed by passengers to Jetstar's Carbon Offset Program (net of GST) will be directed towards Department of Climate Change Approved Greenhouse Friendly™ Abatement Projects. Additionally, Jetstar's Carbon Offset Program will be subject to the Department of Climate Change's annual reporting and auditing processes.
