Jetstar Asia celebrates fifth year of operations into Haikou

SingaporeChina 16 December 2013

Jetstar Asia has celebrated four years of flying to Mainland China with the fourth anniversary of the commencement of flights between Singapore and Haikou.

Jetstar Asia made its debut into China with its first flight from Singapore to Haikou route on 16 December 2009 and has since welcomed more than 200,000 passengers on the route.

“Jetstar Asia is arguably one of the pioneer airlines to introduce low cost travel to people in China,” Jetstar Asia CEO Bara Pasupathi said.

“As we move into our fifth year of operations to Haikou, we will continue to work closely with our partners including the Haikou Tourism Development Commission and Haikou Meilan International Airport to promote our innovative products and services as well as network connectivity beyond Singapore.

“Jetstar Asia remains committed to providing everyday low fares for our customers enabling more Chinese travellers to experience our safe and reliable services to some of the best leisure destinations in the region. Haikou also continues to be a popular destination for many Singapore travellers, particularly the over 200,000 Singaporeans with Hainanese heritage.

“Over the past four years, we have kept our low fares promise with close to 27,000 tickets sold for CNY500 or lower, making leisure trips for travellers from both Singapore and Haikou more accessible, spurring people who would normally find price a barrier to travel more often,” he said.

Jetstar Asia’s well-timed four-times-weekly services between Singapore and Haikou,  which provides through fare options from Haikou to Perth in Australia and Bangkok in Thailand with minimal connecting times between flights, are also being used by more and more Hainanese travellers.

“Hainanese are savvy travellers, and over the last four years we have seen more and more of them using our services to Singapore to find more low fare options to other destinations in Southeast Asia and Australia,” Mr Pasupathi said.
