We may refuse to carry you if we are not completely satisfied that it is safe for you to fly. Before you make a reservation you should tell us if you suffer from any illness, disease or other condition which may make it unsafe for you or other Passengers if you fly.
Medical Clearance
Generally medical conditions shouldn't inhibit you from flying however there are times when precautions should be taken and it is advisable at all times to consult with your medical practitioner about your condition.
Jetstar does require that passengers with certain medical conditions or incapacities to obtain a clearance to fly from Jetstar at the time of their booking.
Acute Allergy Sufferers
Jetstar cannot guarantee an allergy free environment on board its aircraft. It is not Jetstar policy to provide peanut-free flights. We cannot prevent other customers from bringing their own peanuts or peanut snacks onto the aircraft. Jetstar Cabin Crew are not trained to administer adrenalin or any other medication. It is the customer's responsibility to bring sufficient medical supplies, in their carry on baggage for the journey.
Contagious and Communicable Diseases
Passengers who have a contagious or transmittable disease cannot be accepted for air travel until the risk to other passengers has ceased.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Some studies have concluded that prolonged immobility may be a risk factor in the formation of blood clots in the legs (DVT - Deep Vein Thrombosis). If you feel you may be at risk from DVT or other health problems Jetstar recommends you consult with your doctor before travel.
Medical supplies in carry on baggage for the journey
Customers carrying hypodermic needles will need to declare them at the airport screening point. Where possible, documentation or identification to confirm your medical condition should be produced. Medication should have a professionally printed label identifying the medication or a manufacturer's name or pharmaceutical label affixed.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant and your travel is Domestic Travel:
- you have a normal pregnancy , no medical clearance is required.
- you have a complicated pregnancy , medical clearance is required.
- you have an uncomplicated multiple pregnancy , medical clearance is not required provided travel is completed by the end of the 36 th week of pregnancy. There must be 28 Days between the date travel is completed and the date on which you are due to give birth. You must carry a letter from a registered/licensed medical practitioner stating that your pregnancy is progressing normally and specifying the date on which you expect to give birth.
If your travel is International Carriage:
- you have a normal pregnancy, all of your travel must be completed by the end of the 36th week of your pregnancy. There must be 28 Days between the date travel is completed and the date on which you are due to give birth. You must also carry a letter from a registered/licensed medical practitioner stating that your pregnancy is progressing normally, and specifying the date on which you expect to give birth.
- you have a complicated pregnancy, medical clearance is required.
- you have an uncomplicated multiple pregnancy, medical clearance is not required provided travel is completed by the end of the 32nd week of pregnancy. There must be 56 Days between the date your travel is completed and the date on which you are due to give birth. You must carry a letter from a registered/licensed medical practitioner stating that your pregnancy is progressing normally, and specifying the date on which you are due to give birth.
We do not represent that travel is safe for you at any particular point during your pregnancy. You must seek advice from your own medical practitioner. The periods referred to are only our minimum requirements.
Travel Oxygen
If you require supplemental travel oxygen on your Jetstar flight, please be aware of the following requirements. Please contact Jetstar Reservations if you need to confirm the aircraft type of your flight or if you change your flight details at any time prior to your date of travel.
If you are travelling on an A320 aircraft (Domestic Australian and Trans-Tasman flights) operated by Jetstar (JQ)
- Jetstar does not provide 'travel' oxygen - it must be supplied by the passenger.
- Jetstar can only accept oxygen cylinders supplied by BOC or Air Liquide. To contact BOC please call 1800 050 999, to contact Air Liquide please call 1300 360 202.
- A 'C' size cylinder is the maximum size permitted. Multiple cylinders may however be carried. If additional seats are required to carry the oxygen cylinders for your travel, you will need to purchase the seats required to carry the cylinders.
- All other equipment must be supplied by the passenger i.e., oxygen, regulator, mask or nasal cannula.
- The passenger, or carer, is responsible for the onboard control of the oxygen.
- A Doctors' Medical Certificate will be required by the medical gas supplier.
- This Certificate must include details of the passenger's required oxygen flow rate. The Certificate must also state whether the passenger is capable of using the oxygen un-aided (or not).
- A completed Jetstar Travel Clearance Form (PDF 1.55Mb) will be required at check-in.
- The passenger is responsible for ensuring they have sufficient oxygen available (including reserves) for the duration of their journey and any onward travel, taking into consideration the possible impact of any delays (including a diversion).
- The passenger will be responsible for the return of all equipment to BOC or Air Liquide.
- The passenger must comply with the Jetstar Independent Traveller requirement
- If the passenger is connecting to or from a flight operated by another carrier (other than Jetstar, Jetstar Asia and Valuair), they must contact the other carrier to organise travel clearance.
If you are travelling on an A330 aircraft (long haul international flights) operated by Jetstar (JQ)
- The passenger cannot supply their own travel oxygen. It must be supplied by Jetstar (through Qantas Special Handling) for in-flight use only and a fee will apply. To organise this, the passenger's Doctor must complete the Jetstar Medical Clearance Form (PDF 1.55Mb) and return it to Jetstar for pre-approval 7 days prior to the booked flight.
- If additional seats are required to carry the oxygen cylinders supplied for your travel, you will need to purchase the seats required to carry the cylinders.
- The completed Medical Clearance Form must also be presented at check in.
- The passenger, or carer, is responsible for the onboard management of the oxygen.
- The passenger must comply with the Jetstar Independent Traveller requirement
- If the passenger is connecting to or from a flight operated by another carrier (other than Jetstar, Jetstar Asia and Valuair), they must contact the other carrier to organise travel clearance.
