You can bring most musical instruments – the size and weight of your instrument will determine if you can carry it on board or must check it in.
These are instruments that weigh less than 7kg, with a maximum size of 85 x 36 x 23cm.
They can be brought on board and stored in the overhead lockers. The instrument weight counts as part of your carry-on baggage allowance.
For larger instruments, you may purchase a seat for the instrument or it must travel as checked baggage. If it weighs more than 15kg, it must travel as checked baggage.
If your instrument must travel in a seat, contact us to make your booking.
There are restrictions on the number of larger instruments carried per aircraft:
- For large instruments (maximum size 120 x 45 x 20cm), there is a limit of 2 per aircraft
- For extra-large instruments (maximum size 140 x 45 x 50cm), there is a limit of 1 per aircraft
- When travelling on a Q300 aircraft, an ‘extra large instrument’ cannot exceed 160cm (height) x 55cm (Width) x 40cm (Depth).
If travelling in the cabin, the instrument’s case must have a handle so it can be strapped to a seat and secured safely.
Make sure you pack your instrument carefully. We do our best to care for your instrument but we won’t accept any liability for damage.
*Please note that Jetstar Asia (3K) and Jetstar Pacific (BL) do not accept larger instruments for carriage in the aircraft cabin.
Not all fares include checked baggage
Checked baggage is not included with Economy Starter fares. For other fares, check how much baggage allowance is included.
Remember – the best time to add a baggage allowance is when you book.
Baggage charges at the airport
If you haven't added baggage and you arrive at the airport with checked baggage, charges will apply.
You'll be charged a fee for up to 15kg of baggage per passenger, and after that for every additional kilo at the per kilo rate. If you have added checked baggage to your booking but arrive with more than your allowance you’ll be charged for excess baggage. Excess baggage is charged per kilo. We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to add excess baggage to your flight.
Make sure you check our policy for baggage transfers if you have flight connections on your itinerary.
