Jetstar passengers can bring 7kg of carry-on baggage for free on every flight (14kg in business class).

Economy passengers can bring:

  • 1 carry-on bag per person, plus
  • 1 small personal item

with a combined weight of no more than 7kg.

Business Class passengers can bring:

  • 2 carry-on bags per person, each 7kg or less, plus
  • 1 small personal item

with a total combined weight of 14kg.

Carry-on bags and small personal items must fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front. The allowable dimensions for carry on baggage are:

Regional New Zealand Q300 aircraft* All other Jetstar aircraft
48cm (height) x 34cm (width) x 23cm (depth) 56cm (height) x 36cm (width) x 23cm (depth)

Our regional New Zealand Q300 aircraft (operated by Eastern Australia Airlines for Jetstar Airways) have a smaller cabin size, which is why your carry-on baggage must also be smaller.

However, do please note that if your carry-on baggage is larger than these dimensions but still within the size restrictions of our other aircraft – shown above – then we will happily check your bag in at no charge. Please present them at the counter when you check in.

Your baggage may be checked at the gate. If you bring too many items, or they exceed the size or weight limits, the extra baggage will need to be checked in. Charges may apply.

The small personal item you bring on board could be:

  • A handbag, a pocket book or purse
  • A laptop computer in thin case
  • An umbrella or walking stick
  • A small camera
  • Infant food for consumption in flight
  • Approved duty free goods (international flights only)

Carry-on bags and small personal items must fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front. This means they must be no bigger than 56cm (height) x 36cm (width) x 23cm (depth) each.

Some items are prohibited as carry-on baggage so make sure you remove restricted items and don’t forget to check liquid, aerosol and gel limits if you are flying from an international terminal.

If you need to bring essential medical equipment please check requirements.

Travelling with an infant? On all flights except regional New Zealand Q300 flights, you can bring an approved car seat on board, in addition to your other carry-on items, free of charge.
