Travelling with Infants

Infants < 2 Years

For the purposes of travel on Jetstar, an infant is defined as being not yet 2 years of age at the time of travel.

Infants who do not occupy a seat at the time of flying will travel for free on Domestic and Trans-Tasman services (flights between Australia and New Zealand). An infant fee will apply for all other services. A child fare will need to be purchased for infants who have turned two.

Infants over 2 years of age on an inbound flight who were under 2 years on the outbound flight, may travel for the applicable infant fee, or for free if none is applicable, providing they are not occupying a seat.

ID Requirements

Proof of age may be required for infants under 2 years not occupying a seat, such as a birth certificate or passport (required for international travel). If you do not provide an acceptable form of identification for the infant upon request at check-in, the infant may not be allowed to travel.

Baggage Allowance

Infants not occupying a seat are not entitled to a Carry-on or Checked Baggage allowance. Any infant food and items required for use in-flight may be carried as part of the accompanying adult’s Carry-on Baggage allowance. Baby accessories such as a stroller and porta cot may be checked-in free of charge in addition to the accompanying adult’s Checked Baggage allowance.

Accompanying Passenger Requirement

All infants must travel with an accompanying passenger who is 15 years of age or over or a parent.

An accompanying passenger travelling with two infants must purchase a seat for the second infant to sit in. The seated infant needs to be able sit up in the seat without assistance – if the infant cannot sit up in the seat unassisted the accompanying passenger will need to provide an approved car seat for the infant to sit in for the duration of the flight. Infants less than 7 days old

For Jetstar (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K), Valuair (VF) and Jetstar Japan (GK) operated flights, a Jetstar Travel Clearance form must be completed in order for infants less than seven (7) days old to travel. No infant less than 7 days old may travel with Jetstar Pacific (BL).
