Thing To Do & See

Bacchus

A decadent Roman god has transformed this former Methodist mission into a very atmospheric place to splurge (not purge – this isn't ancient Rome, after all). The surrounds are extremely elegant, dishes are assured and the wine list is excellent.

Bogie Hole Café

Located at the top of Hunter St, it's just a hop, skip and jump to Newcastle Beach. The menu includes light summery meals like chicken and honeydew melon salad, to heavier options such as braised lamb shanks.

Estabar

Enjoy espresso and gelati practically on the beach. The Spanish style hot chocolates are popular with those who cringe at the scent of coffee.

Jonah's on the Beach

In a four-star hotel overlooking Newcastle Beach, Jonah's offers magnificent views and a menu full of robustly flavoured delights. The wine list has a strong representation of Hunter Valley drops and there's live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

Scratchleys

It's fishy fresh and it's local and if king prawns aren't big enough, they have jumbo prawns here. There are non-seafood options also.
