Great place for dinner: Havana Music Café, Lake Street, serves up daily Caribbean cuisine and tapas in the heart of Cairns. It also supports local musicians.

Best place to party with the gang: A trip to Cairns is not complete without dancing on the tables at the Woolshed.

Insider's tip: Take an overnight trip coach tour to Cape Tribulation and stay at the Beach House YHA, right on the beach. My husband didn’t want to leave.

Must-eats: Crepe cone filled with ice cream and toppings of your choice from The Crepe Shop located at the Night Markets.

Local recreation activity to watch: Watch the locals enjoy a free Zumba class in the park next to the lagoon every Friday from 5.30pm.

I love Cairns because: With over 300 days of sunshine, friendly locals, and the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef side by side, it’s easy to see why I visit this region several times a year for work and pleasure.
