If you’re looking for your next Insta-worthy getaway, then the bright lights of Auckland opens in new window are the perfect place to start your travels. With plenty of places to wine, dine, party and be pampered, the pretty city is a millennials’ dream destination. Instagrammers, bloggers, you name it, these Auckland hotspots are all on their go-to list.
Winona Forever Café and Bakery
The new kids on the block at Winona Forever Café and Bakery opens in new window are firmly putting Parnell back on the brunch scene. This place packs personality, and it shines through with their choice of picture-perfect menu items and quirky interiors. The menu is full of awesome choices - all of which are both generous and delicious. Think French toast, Eton mess and a whole heap of other sweet treats with epic savoury items to match. My fave? Classic eggs bene, which has been jazzed up to grammable perfection. Yum!
Happy Boy opens in new window definitely lives up to its name. The American-style diner with an Asian twist has come to town, and it’s the best thing since, well, bao buns. The service is awesome; the concept is fun and you can play arcade machine games while you work off that food coma. Delicious burgers, all served in bao buns, are on order with my reigning fave being the chicken with nori and pickled ginger, oh and yuzu mayo. Take my advice, and don’t forget to order sticky pork ribs on the side and a craft beer courtesy of the legends at Brothers Beer. Run, don’t walk – this place is hot-favourite on the gram of many visitors.
Kind Cafe opens in new window is the place to be kind to yourself, your neighbourhood and to the Earth, by dining in a spot that not only provides delicious, nourishing eats but allows you to give back to yourself and your neighbourhood. The menu boasts plenty of (mostly) plant-based meals – but sells bacon, too, so it won’t discourage your meat-eater pal. When they aren’t serving up delicious, healthy eats, they are working to change up the Morningside community – and you can join the movement. Kind plants trees and hosts workshops to teach locals how to live more sustainably. Cacao smoothies with a conscience? Sign me up!
Get ready to gram, drink and try to better your handicap as you navigate the craziest round of mini golf you might just ever play. Welcome to the Viaduct’s Holey Moley opens in new window - a new adults’ playground where you can combine cocktails and score-sheets as you putt your way around 27 holes of madness. Holey Moley also has an on-site restaurant, The Caddyshack, so you can fuel up before or after your game on burgers, loaded fries and bar snacks. Throw into the mix live DJs and you can see why this is the new go-to place for a unique night out with your mates.
The Blue Breeze Inn
Do yourself a favour and include The Blue Breeze Inn opens in new window in your itinerary. There are world-class dumplings and a cocktail list to get the party started. Perched in the heart of Ponsonby, gather up your gal pals and over-indulge on egg noodles and beef shin and tiger prawn dumplings. The pacific-themed décor doesn’t quite match the Asian-fusion cuisine, but it most definitely works. The communal tables, large booths and small intimate settings mean you can invite anyone from your significant other to your whole office. An awesome place to sit is directly overlooking the kitchen, where you can see the chefs whip up your delicious meals.
Tucked away at the back of an unassuming food court on K-road, Love Bucket opens in new window is your new favourite watering hole. Why? Because the handcrafted cocktails are seriously something to write home about. Dark and moody, the décor mirrors that of a classic European tavern floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a space that is comfortable and inviting. If you fancy a bit of a boogie with your beverage, call ahead and investigate what live music act is taking to the stage.
Boar & Blade
Okay, so it’s not all about the wine-and-dine lifestyle, right? Boar and Blade opens in new window is for the fellas looking for the Hella good hair. Inspired by 1950’s Americana, the establishment boasts talented barbers pushing creative boundaries by offering fresh looks and cuts in Ponsonby Central.
