These events in Tasmania are not to be missed!
Food festivals, markets, art exhibitions and concerts – it's always a jam-packed calendar of events in northern Tasmania and these are the dates for your diary.

- March 2019
It’s not just amazing sightseeing that makes northern Tasmania so special. With exciting events running all year-round, you can enjoy live music, take in a film on top of a mountain, sample great food and drinks and more. Here’s everything you need to know before you book your tickets.
MONA Foma, Launceston
After a decade in Hobart, MOFO – MONA’s eccentric summer festival held every January – moved to Launceston in 2018. The festival is known for exciting and sometimes uncomfortable performances, which curator Brian Ritchie calls “kick-ass musical anarchy and artistic abandon”. For 2019, expect a line-up featuring local Tasmanian and international musicians, plus plenty of bizarre surprises on the streets.
Cradle Mountain Film Festival, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park
This isn’t just a place for those who want to brave the area’s incredible (and incredibly steep) trails and adventure activities. It’s a place where you can live vicariously through a film festival screen, watching epic local and international adventure films – while relaxing in a yurt cinema in the forest. Held from March 29-31, there’s also a host of other activities on offer during the Cradle Mountain Film Festival, including yoga, film workshops, cold-water therapy and canyoning.

Farmgate Festival, Tamar Valley
There is nowhere that epitomises farm-to-plate dining quite like the Farmgate Festival. On November 23 and 24, head to the Tamar Valley to tour pig farms and apple orchards, collect freshly-laid eggs and sample honey straight from the hive.
Ten Days on the Island, Burnie
This delightful cultural event only happens every other year and 2019 promises to be epic. If you see nothing else, make sure to check out Australia’s physical theatre company Gravity and Other Myths. The company combines dance, acrobatics and even invites the audience to throw things at them during impossible balancing acts. The show (scheduled for March 8-11 and 15-17) is exclusive to Burnie, 140 kilometres west of Launceston. With local and international music talent taking part, it’s not to be missed.
Shimano Enduro Tasmania, Derby
At Enduro, in late March to early April, the world’s best mountain bikers race across the Blue Derby Mountain Bike trails through fern forests, over granite slabs and more. Cheer on the racers, take in the stunning views and stick around for the afterparty in the village.

Junction Arts Festival, Launceston
For nine years, the Junction Arts Festival opens in new window has celebrated local and international musical, performing and visual arts talent. Events, held across the city from September 4-8, run a gamut from roller-disco nights to feasts cooked over open fire. You’ll also groove along to alt-country and South-Sudanese hip hop performers – and that’s just for starters.
Breath of Fresh Air (BOFA) Film Festival, Village Cinemas Launceston
This international film festival, held from May 16-19, screens stories that challenge our thinking, examine the way we live and seek to bring about change. The Breath of Fresh Air opens in new window (BOFA) Film Festival screens flicks that will make you laugh and cry, but the upbeat party vibe keeps things fun.
