At Jetstar, we love welcoming young travellers. Because we care about their safety and comfort, and that of all our passengers, we have important requirements for children travelling alone. We're not able to provide supervision or assistance, because we don't have the systems, staff or facilities to do so.
Please take note of the requirements below to ensure your child can travel with us independently. If your child does not meet these requirements, they will need to travel with an Accompanying Passenger.
Jetstar considers that the Accompanying Passenger for children must be at least 15 years old. One Accompanying Passenger can assist a maximum of four passengers that do not meet Jetstar’s independent traveller requirements.
All Jetstar (JQ) operated flights and Jetstar Asia (3K) flights to/from and within Australia and New Zealand
Children who are currently enrolled in or attending secondary school may be able to travel independently. They should also be able to meet our Independent traveller requirements.
The child will need to prove that they are enrolled in or attending secondary school OR that they are over 12 years old. Proof of age for passengers 12 years and over is acceptable because in Australia and New Zealand children 12 years and over are generally required to enrol in secondary school.
One of the following forms of identification must be presented at check-in :
- For passengers 12 years and over, proof of age such a passport or birth certificate
- School ID card from a secondary school (can be from a previous year and may be expired)
- Letter from the secondary school on school letterhead stating the year and confirming current attendance or enrolment in current secondary school (including enrolment in secondary school for the coming year after graduation from primary school)
Children who are not yet enrolled in or attending secondary school will be regarded as unable to travel independently and must be accompanied by an appropriate Accompanying Passenger. Even if your child meets the above requirements, before you book them on a Jetstar flight please consider whether they are sufficiently independent to travel unaccompanied using the services provided by Jetstar. If they aren't able to travel independently, we are unable to carry them unaccompanied.
Other Jetstar Asia (3K) flights
