If you're booked to travel to or from Australia on a Jetstar aircraft, you'll need to be fully vaccinated. Exceptions apply for medical exemptions and children. Many countries have also introduced entry requirements in relation to COVID-19, which may include providing proof of a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test result prior to travel. If you're unable to meet these requirements, you may still be able to travel with us under certain circumstances.

What you need to do before you fly

  1. Check Jetstar and government travel requirements
  2. Make sure you have all the required Qantas forms and supporting documents
  3. Submit your documents to us

The process for flights to Australia and flights from Australia is different.

Flights TO Australia: if you have had COVID-19 in the past and still test positive, you need a past positive medical clearance to fly. You do not need to submit your documents prior to travel, as outlined below.

Flights FROM Australia: The signed past positive medical clearance form will need to be submitted to Jetstar before you travel. We prioritise requests for clearance by date of travel. Please make sure you’re submitting the correct documentation and allow as much time as possible before your flight, but no later than the day before travel. We cannot process past positive medical clearance forms at the airport for flights from Australia.

Important: we’re not able to process any COVID-19 vaccination exemptions at the airport for any flights, and you’ll need to submit your request no later than the day before travel.

If your itinerary includes travel with another airline, you'll need to contact them directly to understand and meet their requirements.

Government requirements

Before booking and before departure, check the government requirements for all countries that you're travelling to, and transiting through, to ensure you meet their conditions of entry which may be different from Jetstar's, including any vaccination and pre-departure COVID-19 testing requirements. You must comply with the most stringent requirements.

Remember to also check your departure country's requirements for return travel.

Exemptions or past positive medical clearances not permitted, or government approval required

In some circumstances, due to government restrictions, we're unable to review requests for vaccination exemptions for passengers who are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons, or medical clearances for passengers who are unable to provide a negative COVID-19 test result on departure due to a past positive infection.

Some countries also require prior government approval before you're permitted to enter. Once you've received their approval, ensure you send this to us with the rest of your documents.

Travel within Australia

If your itinerary is for travel wholly within Australia, you don't need to apply for a Jetstar vaccination exemption or past positive medical clearance.

Before booking and before travel, check with the relevant Australian state or territory government for their vaccination and pre-departure COVID-19 testing requirements, including any exemptions. This information may change and we recommend you check the websites regularly for any updates.

Past positive medical clearances

If you've previously had a COVID-19 infection, your pre-departure COVID-19 test can show a positive result, even if you're not currently infected.

If this is the case, to be approved for travel, you're required to provide evidence that you're no longer infectious.

The Australian Government has reduced the time between receiving a positive test result and being able to be cleared for travel to Australia from 14 to 7 days. Find out more.

1. Check which documents are required

After you've reviewed the government requirements and confirmed that you're eligible to request a past positive medical clearance due to a post COVID-19 infection, you'll need to check you have the correct documents for travel.

You need to submit:

  1. A completed Qantas Group COVID-19 past positive medical clearance [PDF]. which is signed by a qualified medical practitioner and dated within 30 days of your day of departure, and
  2. a copy of any government approvals received, if required.

Your documents must be in English, or accompanied by a certified translation if they are in a language other than English. Ensure your certified translation includes the stamp or membership number of a professional translation association, and that the entire certificate is translated, not just part of it.

If any flights in your itinerary are outside of the document validity dates, we require a new form to be completed and submitted for those flights.

2. Submitting your documents

The process is different for flights to Australia and for flights from Australia.

Flights to Australia

For flights to Australia, you don’t need to submit your signed medical clearance form to us in advance, but you will need to show your completed documents at the airport when you check in for your flight.

Flights from Australia

For flights from Australia, we're prioritising requests for clearance by date of travel. Please make sure you’re submitting the correct documentation and allow as much time as possible before your flight, but no later than the day before travel.

We recommend you protect your personal information while sharing online.

When submitting your test results, your completed Jetstar COVID-19 past positive medical clearance form signed by a medical practitioner and any government approvals if applicable, ensure you include your name, contact information, booking reference and flight information in your email. If we don't receive all the relevant information and required documentation, there may be a delay in processing your request for travel.

3. At the airport

When you arrive at the airport on your day of departure, you'll need to show your COVID-19 test result (if required) and any supporting documentation.

For flights departing Australia, we're not able to process any COVID-19 past positive medical clearances at the airport on your day of departure, therefore you'll need to ensure you submit your signed medical clearance form in advance. Otherwise your request will not be considered and you may not be able to board your flight.

Vaccination exemptions

1. Check which documents are required

After you've reviewed the Jetstar and government requirements and confirmed that you're eligible to request a vaccination exemption, you'll need to check you have the correct documents for travel.

Australians with an Immunisation History Statement

If you're an Australian citizen or permanent resident residing in Australia who is unable to be vaccinated due to medical reasons, you'll need to send us your Immunisation History Statement opens in new window, dated within four weeks of your day of departure, which displays medical contraindications to COVID-19 vaccines reported to the Australian Immunisation Register.

If any flights in your itinerary are outside of the document validity dates, we require a new form to be submitted for those flights.

Other valid medical documents required for vaccination exemptions

If you're not an Australian citizen or permanent resident residing in Australia, and you're unable to provide an Australian Immunisation History Statement which displays medical contraindications to COVID-19 vaccines, you'll need to provide one of the following documents:

2. Pre-departure COVID-19 test

If your vaccination exemption is granted, you'll need to provide a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test result notification when you check in for your flight. Your test can be either:

  • A nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT), such as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, taken within 3 days before the day of your flight's departure; or
  • A rapid antigen test (RAT) administered by or under the supervision of a medical professional, taken within the 24 hours before your flight's scheduled departure time; or
  • As per the government requirements for the country you're travelling to or transiting through, if a more stringent testing requirement applies.

If you've previously had a COVID-19 infection, your pre-departure COVID-19 test can show a positive result, even if you're not currently infected. If this is the case, to be approved for travel, you're required to provide evidence that you're no longer infectious.

3. Requirements for children aged between 12 and 17 years

Children aged 12 to 17 years who aren't vaccinated, or have only had one dose of a vaccine, can travel to and from Australia on a Jetstar aircraft where they are:

  • Travelling with a fully vaccinated adult, and
  • If travelling to Australia, travelling to an Australian state or territory in which that child will not be required to undertake mandatory supervised quarantine. Be sure to check state or territory information opens in new window for eligibility and requirements.

Note:

  • You don't need to complete the Qantas COVID-19 vaccination exemption form.
  • Unaccompanied children who aren't vaccinated or have only had one dose of a vaccine aren't able to travel on a Jetstar aircraft.

If travelling from Australia, the Australian government requires unvaccinated or partially vaccinated Australian children aged 12 to 17 years to obtain a travel exemption opens in new window to leave the country.

Ensure you also check the requirements of the countries you're travelling to, from and transiting through, as you'll need to comply with the most stringent requirements that may apply to your entire trip.

4. Submitting your documents

You'll need to submit the required documentation as soon as possible, but no later than the day before departure.

  1. Your proof of vaccination exemption document, and
  2. a copy of any government approvals received, if applicable.

When submitting your proof of vaccination exemption document and any government approvals if applicable, ensure you include your name, contact information, booking reference and flight information in your email. If we don't receive all the relevant information and required documentation, there may be a delay in processing your request for travel.

5. At the airport

When you arrive at the airport on your day of departure, you'll need to show your negative COVID-19 test result and any supporting documentation.

We're not able to process any COVID-19 vaccination exemptions at the airport on your day of departure, therefore you'll need to ensure you submit your request in advance as per the above information. Otherwise you will not be considered exempt from the vaccination requirement and may not be able to board your flight.

What happens next

Once you've submitted your documents, your request will be assessed in accordance with the relevant government COVID-19 vaccination exemption and past positive medical clearance guidelines and requirements.

We'll then contact you to advise:

  • if your request for a COVID-19 vaccination exemption or COVID-19 past positive medical clearance is accepted (pending test results), or
  • if your request isn’t accepted and advise you of your options.

If your request is accepted, you may need to comply with additional government requirements and regulations both before departure and on arrival, which may include quarantine and/or COVID-19 testing. Check the relevant government websites for more information.

If you only have an electronic copy of your documents, we recommend you also carry a printed copy with you to use throughout your trip.

Changing your travel dates

If you change your flights, you'll need to submit a new COVID-19 vaccination exemption or COVID-19 past positive medical clearance request.
