Pilots - FAQs

What is the recruitment process for a Jetstar Singapore Pilot position?

The selection process involves a number of different stages to measure competency in a number of areas. These include an interview and simulator assessment conducted in Singapore.

The process can take some time, so it’s important to keep your Jetstar application on the website up to date with the correct information.

Can I re-apply with Jetstar if I have been unsuccessful?

Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to re-apply after a period of twelve months from being told they are unsuccessful.

As a side note, if you’ve been successful through the pilot recruitment process and placed on the active hold file, your application will expire after a period of 12 months. Although we anticipate a position becoming available in this timeframe, due to the nature of the industry it is not guaranteed.

How long is the Pilot Contract?

Pilots will be offered permanent contracts with the exception of foreign first officers, who will be offered a 5 year contract on a renewal basis.

Are there opportunities to transfer within the Jetstar Group?

Whilst all Jetstar Group airlines have a common operational and commercial philosophy, each is a separate entity and there is no specific policy regarding transfers within the group. Where a specific need arises, pilots may be offered the opportunity to apply for a transfer on a short-term or fixed-term leave without pay (LWOP) basis.

Would Jetstar cover the cost of the Endorsement, CCQ or Refresher Courses?

Where training is required to gain an endorsement or undertake a refresher program prior to being employed, the cost of the training is borne by the applicant. Applicants will be offered the opportunity to enter into a Training Agreement which will allow them to repay the cost incurred through a salary deduction arrangement over a period of 24 months. The cost to each pilot will be determined on an individual basis determined by the additional training required. Currently Jetstar Asia has an agreement with CAE/Oxford to conduct our type rating training. CAE have been specifically briefed to conduct the endorsement training utilising Jetstar specific SOPs.

Pilots once endorsed or who are already endorsed on the aircraft type, will undergo the Jetstar Induction program after commencing with Jetstar Asia. This training will comprise specific procedures and sequences in order to fulfill both Jetstar and Singapore CAAS regulatory requirements.

Command Potential

First Officers will be given opportunities to enhance both their flying and leadership skills. Command upgrade will be offered to appropriately qualified pilots and selection will be based on a number of factors including performance, qualifications and command vacancies.

Remuneration

Jetstar offers an attractive salary package, the details of which will be provided to eligible applicants.

Staff Travel Benefits

Jetstar provides employees a discretionary benefit of staff travel after a six month qualifying period. Employees, their partner, children and their parents are able to access concessional staff travel. Travel is on a standby basis and bookings can be made on Qantas and Jetstar Group aircraft only. Further travel benefits may be available with other carriers in due course subject to specific agreements to be negotiated.

Work Pass

Jetstar, when necessary, will assist successful Pilots (and their families) in obtaining Work Passes in order for them and their families to work and live in Singapore. The cost of the work pass/ dependent pass is borne by the applicant.

Work Pass approval is subject to each applicant meeting entry criteria managed by the Singapore Ministry of Manpower. The application process is expected to take a minimum of three to four weeks.

Conversion to Singapore ATPL/Certificate of Validation

The requirements for existing foreign-ATPL holders to convert to a Singapore ATPL are specified in the Singapore Air Safety Publication Part 2 – Licensing of Professional Pilots, which can be found on the Singapore Civil Aviation Authority (CAAS) website www.caas.gov.sg.
