Airport baggage prices and excess baggage fees

If you arrive at the airport with checked baggage, but you haven’t pre-purchased a checked baggage allowance, you’ll need to purchase checked baggage when you check in at the kiosk or check-in desk, Remember:

• there is an airport price for the first 15kg of baggage per passenger, plus an excess baggage fee for each additional kilo over 15kg (see prices below).
• if you are connecting from domestic to international, you’ll be charged at the international rates for your entire flight.
• if you are connecting from international to international with multiple Jetstar-branded airlines*, the higher charges apply for your entire flight
• it’s easier and faster to add checked baggage to your booking online before you arrive at the airport.

*Jetstar branded airlines: Jetstar Airways (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K) and Jetstar Japan (GK).

This fee will apply for each additional kilogram of checked baggage above your pre-purchased allowance and for each additional kilogram above the first 15kg of checked baggage purchased at the airport.

If you are bringing large, checked baggage items, an oversized item handling fee may apply. Any bag or item with a single side longer than 100cm is an oversized item and you will need to pay a handling fee per oversize item. For details see, Oversized baggage. Oversized items count towards your total checked baggage weight.

If you arrive at airport check-in with more than the standard 7kg carry-on allowance, you can purchase either a checked baggage allowance, or +7kg Extra Carry-On Baggage (subject to availability; available on selected routes) and take up to 14kg onboard (conditions apply). Remember:

• it is cheapest to purchase when you book your flight – we monitor baggage and charge higher fees at the gate
• +7kg Extra Carry-On Baggage is not available on all routes, and has limited availability per flight
• add +7kg Extra Carry-On Baggage online before you get to the airport to make sure it’s available

If you arrive at the boarding gate with more than your carry-on baggage allowance, you must either pay the excess carry-on baggage fee and your bag will be checked in, or purchase +7kg Extra Carry-On Baggage at the boarding gate price, to take up to 14kg onboard (conditions apply). You will need to pay the excess carry-on baggage fee and check in your bag if:

• +7kg Extra Carry-On Baggage is sold out, or your total carry-on baggage weighs more than 14kg
• any item is over 10kg in weight, regardless of your carry-on baggage allowance
• your carry-on baggage exceeds the size limits, or if you have more than 2 items.

Remember, the excess carry-on baggage fee applies regardless of any checked baggage allowance you may have already purchased.
If the excess carry-on baggage fee is applied, the items will be carried as checked baggage in the baggage hold.

* +7kg Extra Carry-On Baggage is not available on flights between Australia and New Zealand
