The Lesser Sunda Islands are home to the ever-popular island destination Bali and are fast becoming an attractive choice for travellers looking for authentic experiences

While Bali is still the holiday location of choice for an island getaway that would encompass good food, diving, great seascapes and wonderful spa treatments, holidaymakers are using it as the jumping off point for the Gili Islands as well as the rest of the Lesser Sunda Islands. Many will find Lombok is what Bali used to be like before it became the island getaway that it is now — climb Mt Rinjani, an active volcano, and enjoy the laid-back vibe of the island. Many divers use the Gili Islands to the northwest of Lombok — Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air as bases while those wanting to take it down a notch would enjoy the small island experience. The adventurous can explore Flores for its Komodo National Park, home to the Komodo Dragons, the world’s largest lizards and a New7Wonders of Nature winner; volcanic Mt Kelimutu with its tri-coloured lakes and diverse underwater diving in Maumere Bay.
