The Vulcan is named after the Roman god of fire, and is usually associated with the melting of iron to make both weapons and agricultural implements.Built in 1894, The Vulcan Hotel provided high class accommodation and drinks for travellers in the Sydney city district. Those in particular who were mainly involved with the storage of wool, shipping and the iron works that were all in the vicinity of the hotel.Formerly famous as a venue for jazz bands, it was also known as a great 'watering hole' for locals and students alike. The Vulcan is fondly remembered for both its bands and great atmosphere throughout the many years it traded as a pub/hotel.
At the end of 2002 the brand new "Vulcan" was born. After extensive rebuilding and remoulding, and with a multi-million dollar refurbishment to the inside of this heritage listed building, it now provides the best contemporary accommodation in the city of Sydney. And all this at a really great price.All 30 rooms are ensuite and equipped with their own facilities to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.In mid 2006, a new wing was built and this added an extra 16 rooms, a brand new cafe, reception and courtyard. A lift was built into the new wing for convenient access to the upper floors.
In 2008 we won the City of Sydney Business Award for Best Boutique Hotel in Sydney.

A valid debit or credit card and a government-issued photo ID are required at check-in. A $50 pre-authorization will be applied to cover any incidental charges. For stays of 7 nights or more, a $100 credit card deposit is required. This pre-authorization amount is 'frozen' on your account and is automatically released by your bank. When your account has been settled, the remaining pre-authorization is released back into your available funds.
If a $50 pre-authorization cannot be provided, a $100 cash deposit is required. The cash bond is refunded at the time of check-out, less any incidental charges.
Our check-in time is from 2 pm and check-out is until 10 am. Early check-in and Late check-out may be arranged but is subject to availability may incur a charge.
If there are changes to the reservation’s departure date, the hotel requires 24 hours’ notice after check-in time otherwise there will be an applicable one-night fee.
You must be 18 years or older to make a booking. If you arrive at the hotel and are under 18 years of age, you will not be permitted to stay alone. We may require photo identification as proof of age.
