The Pumphouse Retreat is nestled by the lake and hidden by native bush. Designed for absolute privacy and total self-sufficiency, it’s the remedy for those needing reconnection in the wilderness. Uniquely Tasmanian, with no interruptions... it’s not your normal luxury suite.
Books, scrabble, a roaring wood fire and your cellar are a warm welcome. There’s two deep-soak bathtubs; one is under the gumtrees and stars, upon the lake’s edge. Pair these with Aesop delights for the perfect end to a bushwalk. Contemporary architecture, hand-crafted timber furniture and Tasmanian ceramics define quality at every touch.
The Retreat is all inclusive of a hefty in-room larder and cellar, brimming with the best cheeses, salmon, chocolate, charcuterie, snacks, wines, beers, ciders, spirits and cocktails. It’s also inclusive of farmhouse fare dinners and breakfasts, served in the communal dining room daily.
E-bikes and rowboats are included for guests to glide away and explore the world heritage wilderness, although wombats, echidnas and currawongs drop by for a visit without having to leave.

The property is set on Australia’s deepest lake (Lake St Clair) and makes use of stunningly refurbished industrial buildings, one of which is spectacularly positioned 240m out over the crystal clear highland water.This retreat offers 19 rooms of beautiful ensuite accommodation, comfy lounges and roaring log fires. Each room has a gourmet larder filled with exceptional Tasmanian produce and each lounge contains an honesty bar where you get to be the bar tender. Join us in the shorehouse each night for a communal dinner with fellow guests featuring a seasonal three-course set menu – nourishing soups, roasted and braised meats, fresh vegetables, and decadent desserts are the norm. Saturday nights are extra special with a fire feast over our roaring asado grills.
